To best meet the current and future needs of faculty, staff, students and visitors, Oregon State University is implementing a new zonal parking system starting October 1, 2014. This demand-based system has been carefully developed to allow you to choose which parking options, including location and permit price, best meet your individual needs, while also helping to:
All parking lots on campus have been carefully grouped into zones based on parking demand patterns. Total permit sales in all zones will be limited to improve parking availability. Parking usage will be regularly monitored to maintain a balance between the number of spaces and the number of permits sold.
The current OSU Shuttle will be renamed the Beaver Bus and is expanding its hours, routes and weeks of operation to support the OSU community and the zonal parking system. Moving forward, Transportation Services staff will continue to implement solutions and incentives to support the varied ways to travel safely to and around campus.
Starting October 2014, a valid OSU Zonal Parking permit is required to park in any space on campus. The OSU Zonal Parking system includes 7 general use zones (Zones A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, or C), as well as two residence hall parking zones (Zones BR and CR).
There are three different geographic zones at the A price level (A1, A2, and A3) and the B price level (B1, B2, B3). An A1 permit holder is only authorized to park in the A1 lots, not A2 or A3. However, a “park down” feature (see below) increases your parking options, by allowing you to also park in any zones with a lesser demand. For example, with the A1 permit, you could also park in B1, B2, B3, and C.
This system is designed to better manage the relationship between the number of spaces and the number of permits sold, helping ensure that spaces are available when needed, but not left empty for long periods of time. Keeping the zones small also cuts down on the time potentially spent hunting for a space.
Each person now has the ability to select the zone that best meets their parking needs (see zone/pricing table below). If the zone you choose is full, a waitlist option is available.
